Chandra Davis had the honor of receiving the Superior Civilian Award from the Defense Logistics Agency on behalf of her husband.

Andrew Simpson and Louisa Catherine Dodd Hemperley had moved to Bright Star prior to the beginning of the Civil War. They had four children, one of whom was Jefferson Beauregard, who later in life was a prominent merchant at Collins Bluff, Spring Bank, and Doddridge. “Gard,” as he was called, was born July 31, 1861. His father became active in the War, and on May 26, 1863, he died from wounds received in battle three days earlier at Vicksburg, Mississippi. Gard was twenty-two months old at the time.

Frontage/Hampton Rd. - West from FM 989. Extension of frontage roads FM 989/Kings Highway - From I-30 North Frontage Rd. to Gibson Lane, widening road US 259 – Closed to thru traffic north of I-30 to FM 44, detour in place. Surface rehabilitation SH 8 – At Sulphur River, bridge replacement. New bridge open I-369/Loop 151 - From US 59 to I-30, resurfacing road. Nightly lane closures, 8pm - 6am Cass County US 59 – From FM 3129 to SL 236, resurfacing road. Southbound lane closure SH 8 – At Sulphur River, bridge replacement. New bridge open FM 130 - From FM 250 to FM 995, resurfacing road. Lane closures Harrison County US 59 – At I-20, replacing bridge. US 59 traffic shifted to northbound lanes I-20 – From SH 43 to Gregg County line, rehab existing roadway FM 3001 – At Little Cypress Bayou Relief, replacing bridge.
