It’s beginning to look a lot like... downtown Atlanta

Holiday lighting began in the Atlanta downtown area this week as workers from Freeman Landscape of Texarkana began climbing the more than 100 business district poles to light and wrap them with greenery and red ribbons. This lamp pole is on North East Street. But wait. What is that hooded figure on top of the building on the Atlanta downtown street of East Hiram? Is he helping Halloween arrive? No, as a matter of fact, Freeman Landscape puts up and maintains the roof lighting outlining the buildings year-round.The hooded figure is either replacing old bulbs or putting up new ones. It’s all part of the holiday season now in downtown Atlanta. (Photos by Neil Abeles)

Santa pays an early visit

New Colony Baptist Church on U S.59 between Atlanta and Linden invited Santa Claus to come early Sunday afternoon. Seems the congregation wanted to give the children plenty of time to talk with the congenial figure. But the family (above) of Lovie, Ralph and Chance Terry ask “Why miss an opportunity? Let’s talk with Santa ourselves … and get a picture.” Watch for more pictures from New Colony’s special public happening in next week’s Citizens Journal-Sun.
