88 years and going strong

Linden’s Garden Club met to open its year of activities and celebrate its 88 years of existence Aug. 16. Some 19 of 21 members were present for a sack lunch and the discussion of club plans as well as to hear of town activities from Linden City Administrator Lee Elliott.

BURN BAN ISSUED

Cass County has come under a burn ban effective August 9 due to drought conditions. Judge Travis Ransom issued the ban shortly before Governor Abbott’s wildfire disaster declaration on August 11. Abbott’s declaration included 11 East Texas counties including Cass. This comes at a time when much of the state is suffering from drought. Even though Northeast Texas does not officially show drought conditions (according to droughtmonitor.unl.edu) the dry weather is prime for wildfires. For that reason, County and State officials are issuing prohibitions and guidelines for burning.

Sinking sensation

A sinkhole formed on North Louise Street last Tuesday causing a large portion of the road to be blocked off to through traffic.According to City Manager Danica Porter. The initial hold observed was not just in one location but went down through a large portion of the street. Danica explained that the hole was caused by an underground creek and wear and tear on the road. Even though the whole was filled in,there are plans to meet with the Atlanta City Council to discuss a plan and funding to create a more permanent solution to the problem.Thursday the road was back open.
