After six months of being closed, Governor Greg Abbot issued an Executive Order on October 7 to open bars at up to 50% capacity in conjunction with county offcials. The decision will be based on hospital regions with low COVID-19 hospitalizations as of October 14.
On October 5, 2020 at approximately 5:05 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were notified of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of SH8 and FM 995 in Cass County about five miles south of Douglasville. Preliminary investigation indicates a 2009 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on SH 8. A 2005 GMC 5500 was traveling eastbound on FM 995. For a yet undetermined reason, the driver of the GMC disregarded the stop sign and entered the intersection where it was struck by the Hyundai.
On Wednesday, Sept. 30, a Cass County grand jury handed down indictments for capital murder against Kevin Shepard, 29, of Atlanta and Gary Shepard, 50, of Bivins. The charges stem from the disappearance of Donnie Combs and Cynthia Arnold, who went missing on or about Sept. 25, 2018.
Motorists who normally travel FM 2327 North near Domino will need to find an alternate route on Thursday, Oct. 15.
