BYRON (BO) NEIL GHOLSON

Bo went to meet his maker early on December 14, 2019, after a hard, twoyear fight with head and neck cancer. Bo was born and died in Atlanta, TX. His parents, who went before him, were Horace and Norma Jean Gholson. Bo’s parents met and married in Atlanta, TX.

Bo is survived by his wife, Geri B. Gholson, his son, Marcus Gholson, daughter in law Josette Gholson, grandson Rowdy Gholson, all of Kaplan, LA, stepsons Benton Chase Wink and Greg Youdan of New York City, NY, and Prentice Wink and fiancé Ashley Alexander of College Station, TX.

Bo is also survived by his sisters Lisa Thompson of Atlanta, TX and Lynda Provenzano of Baton Rouge, LA. His nephews and nieces that survive him are Matt Provenzano of Houston, TX along with his wife Brian, son Brennan and daughter McNeil, Tyler McGoogan of Texarkana, TX, along with his wife Chelsea and daughter Callie, and Lindsey McGoogan of Midland, TX.

Bo provided for his family by working primarily at the Texas Department of Corrections and the Liberty County Jail.

Bo’s life revolved around the annual Gholson family reunion, hunting seasons, fishing, and cooking for family and friends. All plans for the year revolved around the reunion, which has expanded from one day, to a Thursday to Sunday event for several family members.

Bo was known for his love of people and has had many good friends, some of whom have preceded him in death, and others of whom remain to remember good times had with Bo. He loved any kind of hunting and fishing. Some of his favorite fishing trips included trips to Golden Meadows, LA and Anchor Point, Alaska.

He could cook just about anything! He is best known for his championship BBQ. When friends knew he was frying fish, they would hint loudly for an invitation to dinner!!

One of his favorite stories to tell is from his childhood. When he and his two best friends, Steve Little and James Joslin, were young Rabe Little would tell them often, “you boys make me uneasy”. We can only imagine the trouble those young boys got into while playing in the woods.

Instead of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to either of the following two places. First, James Joslin has agreed to take any monies given in Bo’s memory to provide hunter education to young adults in Cass County, Texas. Mail checks made out to James Joslin to P.O. Box 943, Atlanta, TX 75551. Please note in the “for” space “in memory of Bo”. Second, is our little church in Westcliffe, CO. Make checks to The 40, P. O. Box 510, Westcliffe, CO 81252. Please note in the “for” space “in memory of Bo”.

Bo is loved and will be greatly missed by all who know him.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, December 21, 2019, in the Hanner Funeral Chapel with Steve Reiff officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
