Fatal crash on 59

On August 4, 2020 at approximately 2:47 p.m. Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were notified of a crash on US 59 just north of FM 3129 in Cass County, about 1 mile north of the Domino Community. Preliminary investigation reveals a bicyclist was traveling northbound on US 59. A 2020 Nissan Altima was traveling north on the entrance ramp and merging onto US 59. For as an yet undetermined reason the bicyclist turned in front of the Nissan and was struck.

The operator of the bicycle, Faustino Garcia, 62, of Atlanta Tex., died at the scene and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Micki Henderson. He was taken to Hanner Funeral Home in Atlanta, Tex.

The driver of the Nissan, Stewart Benson, 31, of Onaway, Mich., was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation and no more information is currently available.
