EVELYN DIAL BEENE
On Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, Evelyn Dial Beene, loving mother of four daughters, and widow of Leonard D Beene, passed away at the age of 93. She was born in Doddridge, Arkansas, to Victor D Dial and Etrice Bryant Dial.
She graduated from Atlanta High School in 1944 and worked for many years as an accountant, first in family businesses with her husband, and later with Atlanta Memorial Hospital, then Hermann Hospital Estate in Houston, until she retired.
Evelyn married Leonard D Beene in 1945 and together they had four daughters. She and her mother were excellent seamstresses and kept all four girls dressed in style. Many Saturdays were spent shopping for patterns and fabric.
She and Leonard were instrumental in the formation of the First Assembly of God Church in Atlanta, where they attended until they moved to Houston in 1981 and returned there for many of their retirement years.
Evelyn, an excellent pianist, also played the guitar, organ, accordion and steel guitar, and played for church congregations all her life. She had a passion for family gatherings and was a great cook - fried catfish was a weekly family - and Leonard - favorite.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother V.D. Dial, Jr and his wife, Marie Doss Dial.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Janice Beene of Clinton, PA, Elaine Abshire of Round Top, TX, Vickie Davis and husband, Paul, of Friendswood, TX, and Becky Ullman and husband, Paul, of Galveston, TX, grandchildren, Cynthia Blechl, Alicia Ogden and husband Josh, Marcia Thomason and husband Terry Nichols, Jennifer Farrington and husband Ryan, and Byron Ullman and wife, Tiffany, nephew Ed Dial and wife, Dene, and niece Joy Waters and husband Ken, and other beloved extended family members.

A memorial service celebrating Evelyn’s life will be held at a later date.
