2022 Journal Sun Media Intern Information
Free Training – We will bring in professional guest trainers, distribute training materials and provide in action learning and assessment.
Marketable Experience – You will have the opportunity to show future employers and clients projects you have worked on through a credible news organization.
Learn Journalism – Not only will we bring in free journalistic training, but you will also work alongside professional journalists. We have people on staff with 10-35 years’ worth of experience. We are also associated with 32 other newspapers throughout Texas.
Gain Credibility – Our newspaper is nearly 150 years old. According to research, the newspaper is still the most credible source of news, even among millennials! We also have one of the highest-trafficked Facebook Pages in Cass County with over 10,000 followers. Since our website is associated with a newspaper, we also have a high page rank with Google.
Association - Through the newspaper and the people that work here, we already have great interview contacts from about every subject, including entertainment, government, sports, and celebrities. We plan on utilizing those relationships for video and audio content. Because of our credibility, we can boldly build new relationships for interviews.
Space to Work and Grow – This is a new project with the newspaper. There will be opportunities to be on the ground floor to create something special for the community. We are looking for different types of people to fill various roles.
Certificate of Completion – We will have three types of internships available, one month, six months, and one year. Upon completion of each, the intern will receive a certificate of completion. Additional long-term internships and employment may be available in the future.
Platforms – We will be providing video, audio, articles, and other content for YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, websites, and other social media platforms as well.
Content – All of our content will be family-friendly, meaning that anyone can safely listen or watch. As with the newspaper, the content will also be apolitical, typically staying away from controversial topics. We will produce content that focuses on subjects like local news, history, events, sports, travel, people, animals, faith, current events, local government, and seasonal topics.
Future employment – This internship is non-paid. However, we are looking for at least two future paid positions including an assistant executive producer.
Work Environment – We have already created a new studio in the Journal-Sun building. We are also working on a TV talk show style set in another part of our building. We will continue to grow our sound and video equipment. Our facility also has lots of room for growth.
