Melvin Coats

June 17, 1937 - August 21, 2024

Melvin Coats age 87, of Queen City, Texas, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at his residence. Melvin was born June 17, 1937, in Queen City, Texas to Neal and Ora Lee Coats. He was the owner of Coats Barber Shop; served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict; and was a member of Calvary Tabernacle for over 40 years. He loved taking care of stray animals; and enjoyed riding his horses, donkey’s, and mules. Melvin also enjoyed coon hunting as a younger man.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steve Coats; granddaughter, Stephanie Elizabeth Garza; brother, Jewel Coats; sisters, Elouise Dickey, Louise McCasland; and by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara Coats of Queen City, Texas; children, James Coats and wife Nelda of Price, Utah, Betty Florence and husband Bubba of Bloomburg, Texas; brothers, Dennis Coats and wife Bonnie of Queen City, Texas, Buster Coats of Queen City, Texas; sister, Margie Irrizary and husband Carlos of Benton, Arkansas; grandchildren, Mandie Toland and husband Joe of Galveston, Texas, Joe Oliver and wife Julie of Cincinnati, Ohio, Richard Oliver and wife Amber of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jamie Dalrymple and husband Joe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Leanne Dempsey and husband Jonathan of Oil City, Louisiana, Kay C Noyes of Price, Utah, Mackenzie Coats of Brooklyn, New York, Tucker Coats of Orlando, Florida; and a number of great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Calvary Tabernacle under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Bro. Billy Dupree officiating.

Visitation was on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hanner Funeral Service.
