Charles “Charley” Harrist
March 6, 1950 - April 13, 2025
Charles “Charley” Harrist, age 75, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 13, 2025, in a local nursing home. Charley was born March 6, 1950, in Tomball, Texas, to Charles Sr. and Geraldine Harrist.
He was a Journalist for several newspapers including the Texarkana Gazette, Corsicana Daily Sun, Daingerfield Bee, and retired from the Atlanta Citizen’s Journal. Charley attended the Atlanta Church of God; and was very active in this younger years in many civic organizations helping with Project Empty Stocking and feeding those who were less fortunate around the holidays to name a few.
He was preceded in death by his children, Jeffrey Harrist, and Eden Burns; his sister, Nancy McCollim; his best friend and brother-in-law, Charles Pitts; and by his parents.
He is survived by his step-son, Michael Caver of Washington State; his sisters, Judy Pitts of Atlanta, Texas, Lori Cullins and husband Tommy of Queen City, Texas; two grandsons, Cody Tomlin and Jacob Tomlin; great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Pine Crest Cemetery, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Charles Hale officiating.
