Glen Moore Whatley
On Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, Glen Moore Whatley, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather left this earth and entered the presence of the Lord at the age of 83, surrounded by family that loved him dearly.
Glen was born on Feb. 9, 1936 in Texarkana to Lex Sr. and Emma Florence Whatley. He attended and graduated from Kildare High School in 1954. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Education Degree from ETBU in Marshall, Texas and a Master’s of Education Degree in Commerce, Tx. On June 13, 1959, he married Audrey Dell Scott, the love of his life. This past June, they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary and have blessed their family with a legacy of love and faithfulness. Together they loved and raised three wonderful sons.
Glen was a dedicated Christian man that loved and faithfully served God, his family, and community throughout his life. He was the song leader in his church for 30 years. He taught intermediate math for 4th-7th graders for 33 years in Avinger and Linden. For 30 years of his teaching career, he drove the school bus. Outside of the classroom, Glen spent his time with family, working on the farm, growing delicious produce in his garden, and raising livestock.
Glen lived his life to please God and serve others. His favorite scripture was John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” Glen wanted others to know that Jesus is the only way to salvation. Glen is now Home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and is experiencing the joy of the Lord, free from sorrow and pain.
Glen is preceded in death by his father, Lex Sr., his mother Emma Florence, and his seven brothers and sisters – Woodrow, Louise, Carson, O.B., Lex Jr., Avanell, and Eunice, and one granddaughter Molly Kate.
He is survived by his wife Audrey of 60 years, his three sons: Boyce and wife Kim; Brian and wife Marcie; and Brandon and wife Gwen, seven grandchildren: Amanda Lafferty and husband Mason; Christopher Duck and wife Janna; Jami Kaleh and husband Sean; Caleb Whatley; Bethany Barrineau and husband Clinton; Josiah Whatley; Joshua Whatley; and seven great grandchildren: Kaylee Duck; Trenton Duck; Mabry Lafferty; Declan Lafferty; Addison Duck; Cooper Kaleh; and David Barrineau.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Hanner Funeral Service in Atlanta, Texas, Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019 at Cross Creek Cowboy Church, TX Hwy 77 E., Atlanta, Texas, with Bro. Paul Murdock and Brian Whatley officiating. Burial will follow at Kildare Cemetery.
