Vancie Mae (Allen) Gaines
Vancie Mae (Allen) Gaines, age 86, of Linden, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She was born on June 17, 1935, in Cass County, Texas, to the late Vance and Mildred Allen.
She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She graduated from Perfection High School and moved to Oklahoma City where she met the love of her life, Melvin Gaines, who she married on August 1, 1958. After nearly 28 years of service, she retired from Lerner Shop as an Area Manager around 1985 and moved back home to Cass County, Texas.
Vancie always was willing to help and support in whatever way she could. Over the years, she has been a devoted member and active in many ministries at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Linden, TX including the Sunday School, Mission, Kitchen, Choir, Program Planning, Deaconess, and other duties as needed.
She has also served her community in a variety of roles with the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Rosenwald School Restoration project, local Homecoming activities, Business and Professional Women’s Club and the nationally recognized Pleasant Hill Quilters.
She was also honored as “Woman of the Year” by the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her Husband; two brothers, Paul Allen and Ortice “Buddy” Allen; a sister, Faye Catherine Epps, and her loving Parents.
Vancie leaves to cherish her memories one Sister, Betty Body of Del City, Oklahoma; a brother, Larry Allen of Kildare, Texas; very special great-niece Dorita Herd and great-great niece Cidney Celestine of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and a host of nieces and nephews, other family, and treasured friends.
Vancie Mae Gaines will lie in repose at Queen City Funeral Home on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. A Committal Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Pastor Shaun Collins officiating.
