Texas History Minute

Hilton started buying more hotels. By 1924, he built a new hotel in Dallas, the fourteen-story Dallas Hilton, which he completed for more than $1.3 million (or $23.3 million in 2024 dollars). In Dallas, he also settled down and married Mary Barron, with whom he would have three sons. He continued to expand, building new hotels in Abilene and Waco in the late 1920s. The popular Waco Hilton was completed in 1928.

Texas History Minute

On Monday, April 8, viewers in the continental United States will be witness to a rare, spectacular event: the total eclipse of the Sun by the Moon. And Texas will be able to enjoy most of the event in spectacular fashion. Across the entire state, at least 80% of the Sun will be obscured, allowing almost all of the Lone Star State to experience the event, with the area of the toal eclipse moving across the heart of Texas Already, preparations are being made across the state. Hotel rooms in the path of the totality, the area of total eclipse, have been sold out for months. State officials estimate that millions could be visiting the state that day.

Annie Elizabeth Eargle Draper

Annie Elizabeth Eargle was born 13 Dec 1878 in Miller County, Arkansas. She was the second child of Elias and Martha Elinor Thomas Eargle. She was named for her grandmother, Annie Elizabeth Price Eargle. Her siblings were: Charles Artemus, William Henry Harrison, James Hardee, Elias Ellington, Melvine Priscilla (Pearl), Ethel Ionia, Jesse Cleveland, Mary Vivian, and Eddie Lois.
