Federal judge appears skeptical of new border

A federal judge is expected to rule quickly on the constitutionality of a Texas law about to go into effect that institutes new state penalties for illegal border crossings. During a hearing last week, U.S. District Judge David Ezra said he had concerns that other states would follow Texas’ lead in creating their own immigration laws – a power given exclusively to the federal government under the U.S. Constitution.

Moran votes to impeach Mayorkas

Congressman Nathaniel Moran (TX-01) released the following statement after voting to impeach U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas: “Impeachment is a tool that should not be taken lightly. House Republicans have conducted a thorough review and investigation of the actions the Department of Homeland Security has taken under Secretary Mayorkas, which found not only did he ignore his statutory and Constitutional duty to secure the border, but he also actively worked against those mandates put in place to protect and secure our southern border.

TEA annual report just released

The Texas Education Agency’s annual report was released last week. It indicates per-student funding in the 2021-2022 school year averaged $14,928 per student, up 42% since 2011. However, state funding has only risen slightly in the past decade, while local funding has increased substantially.
