Jesus emphasizes the importance of hearing the Word of God when a person in the crowd said, “Blessed is the woman who gave you birth and nursed you.” Jesus said, “Rather blessed are they who hear the Word of God, and keep it.” (Luke 11:28) On another occasion Jesus made it clear, “Hearing the Word of God was more important than eating. “Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken from her. “(Luke 10:28-32) There are other Bible passages that give us the same exhortation: “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly….” (Col. 3:15) The Word of God is living and powerful.” (Heb. 4:12) In the parable of the four kinds of soil…Jesus indicates and warns that we be careful how we listen. If the devil turns us from understanding God’s Word….if our listening is so shallow, troubles will turn us away…if the word does not lead to reject the cares of this world will choke out the Word.
