Summer Fest 2023
The Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Atlanta had its 2023 SummerFest & Fireworks Show on Saturday. July 1 st. Hundreds came out to celebrate Independence with an evening of family fun. The event was held behind the Atlanta Fire Department at 606 S. Louise St. The Dusty Rose Band, on-site food vendors, yard games, and more followed by a professional fireworks show that the whole community was able to enjoy around Atlanta.
Tips for preventing heat-related illness
As Northeast Texas experiences the dog days of Summer the CDC gives tips for preventing heat-related illnesses. It’s important to take proper care of the elderly, children and animals that cannot care properly for themselves. This time of year, people around the country hear reports of people leaving their children and animals in the car only to come back and find them ill or deceased. Workers in the heat should also be encouraged to take breaks and stay hydrated to avoid sickness.
2023 Readers’Choice People and Places ends Friday
This year’s Readers’ Choice voting will officially end on July 7, at 8:00 p.m. As of Sunday evening, there were well over a record 50,000 votes, with 1,412 participants voting this year. Each year the newspaper learns something new and tries to tweak it to make it better for the next year. Because of the popularity of the voting, we extended the deadline to vote. We received mixed reviews and next year will stick to a hard deadline.
