City of Linden to become a Tree City USA community

The City of Linden is looking to become the first Tree City USA community in Northeast Texas. At the regular October City Council meeting, the City Council decided to pursue certification, following more than 3,400 communities that have made the commitment to becoming a Tree City USA. To achieve Tree City USA status, you must meet four core standards of sound municipal forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department (the City of Linden’s Park’s Department will be in charge of this program), having a community tree ordinance, spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrate Arbor Day (we will celebrate Friday, November 4th). After our Arbor Day celebration, we should receive our certification by December.

Extension office moves

Extension office moves

Cass County Extension Office has just about completed their move to 1008 N. Louise Street, where the modest office space is nestled near Jeff Peace Financial. The move from Linden appears bittersweet for Cass County Extension Agents.

Cullen Baker Fair Update

While the theme of The Cullen Baker Fair is distinctly Old West, the planning that has been going on weekly for several months now...is anything but Old West. Every committee member has used an iPhone. Some...like myself...use them in limited ways. The younger, more savvy members treat them as their personal secretary...and rightfully so. The ever present phone can give you the correct information in a New York second...not a minute. Well, and you can count on never having a relationship problem with your phone...if you know what you are doing. If you don’t, well then technical problems take ALL the fun out of seeking and giving information. No one around me, at the meetings, seemed to have phone problems. Except, me, and I had lots of help with mine.
