Linden, Texas – Cass County Commissioners court in conjunction with County Clerk Amy Varnell evaluated the need for a Property Fraud Alert program for Cass County Citizens and plan to move forward with its implementation.
On Friday, July 29 the State of Texas State Operations Center (SOC) received an initial report of the Cass 4439 Fire in Cass County in the Linden area. According to their preliminary report, the fire had burned 40 acres and at that point had not been contained. The fire was located west of County Road (CR) 1896 and north of Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 125 S (32° 58.0429’ N I 94° 16.4522’ W). Later the fire was contained, with a final report from the State of Texas State Operations Center. The fire threatened 20 homes and was just minutes away from completely jumping highway 125 and threatening L-K High School according to Cass County Emergency Services District #4 fireman Keith Duncan.
At 12:45 a.m. July 30, it was released from Game Warden, Shawn Hervey, that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens along with Cass County Sheriff ’s office, ESD2 Cass County are actively searching for three missing juveniles in Cass County. The search is centered around a private pond off state highway 77. Will update when info is available.”
On July 29, Captain Greg Restelle from the Atlanta Police Department issued a press release regarding the homicide of Elijah Smith, 18, that happened on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at approximately 1:45 p.m. “The Atlanta Police Department was dispatched to the 100 block of Polk Street in reference to a shooting. Officers arrived on the scene and located a young man in the backyard of the residence with a gunshot wound. Life-net Medic 70 transported the victim to the Atlanta Fire Department. The victim was then airlifted by Lifenet Air to Ochsner Health in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Daniel Garcia, 25, of Linden, owner of the local animal rescue Save’em Acres was in an accident on Highway 59 near Linden, Texas that took his life. Preliminary investigation indicates that Garcia’s vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, was southbound on US 59 when it hydroplaned in standing water while raining. Garcia’s car went into the northbound lane where it was struck by a second vehicle, a 2019 Ford F150 driven by Frank Rutigliano, 32, of Houston.
