Be careful what and who you yoke yourself to

If you have been around the church for a while you have heard from the pulpit or from your parents not to be unequally yoked. Growing up I always wondered what that meant. The only yoke I knew about came from chickens. So, did the Bible mean that people should be careful about the kind of eggs in omelets? Maybe a cooking reference?? Ok surely, I gest, but for those people like me who had no earthly idea what that means, let’s talk about it.

Top debate teams advance to state

The Atlanta Debate Team competed at Region 8 in District Policy Debate on Thursday, February 10, 2022. The top two teams advance to State. Competing were the teams of Sam Jones and Cademon Larson, Dasia Jeffley and Emma Lanier, and Kennedy Harrison and Ivy Alfaro. The competition consists of three 1.5 hour rounds followed by semi and finals for those who advance from prelims. These amazing young men and women started debating at 9:00am and finished at 5:30pm with only a 30 minute break for lunch. All of them except Sam and Cademon are first year debaters. We are proud of their professionalism and hard work. Emma and Dasia placed 5th, Ivy and Kennedy placed 3rd and advance as alternates to State, Sam and Cademon took 1st and are advancing to state as the top seed from our district. Sam Jones achieved top speaker.

Huffines Community Club

Huffines Community Club hosted a political forum Tuesday, February 15, at 6:30. Several Candidates were represented including: John Morris, Gina Bassham, Carolyn Lance, Tracy Lee, Courtney Shelton, Travis Ranson, Jamie Albertson, Melisa Shores, Andy Smoak, , Randy Powell, Darrell Godwin, John Sisco, Bridget Green and Tracey Lee. Kevin Young was unable to make it due to a broken ankle. 75 people signed the guest list,however it was estimated another 10 to 15 were in attendance who did not. Mary Manley, who helped organize the event, said she received a positive response from those who attended. The event venue is normally used for live music the second and fourth week of the month.
