COVID-19 Update

The Global Pandemic continues to hang on, as the state and county continue to see cases. The big news has been the COVID-19 variant that has come out of South African, called Omicron. The push for people to get vaccinated continues as Cass County only sits at about 34% fully vaccinated with sits way below both state and national rankings, with the State of Texas at 54% and the country at about 59%.

CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital - Atlanta and Genesis PrimeCare Ellington Memorial Clinic will present the second annual “Cruise Through Christmas,” a community holiday celebration, from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6, at the hospital located at 1007 South William Street.

Redistricting leaves some frustrated

Typically, every 10 years the Texas Legislators redraw the district based on the census data and the political strategy by the party in power. This year the Republicans redrew the map leaving at least two groups of people frustrated. One group were the South Texas House Districts which represent among others Latino Democrats and on the other side the Texas rural communities which typically vote Republican. With the new redistricting, the Republicans hope to keep Texas in the hands of the Republicans in years to come.
