Ark-La-Tex prepares to assist Ida victims

Weather Channel reported that “Ida’s catastrophic crawl across Louisiana has left at least two people dead, thousands of miles of power lines out of service and 911 dispatch centers inoperable.” The article went on to say that “rescuers were still trying to reach people trapped in their homes in some areas, and residents are being told not to return to New Orleans and other areas across southeast Louisiana until further notice.”

Wilbanks officially announces retirement

On September 1, 2021, Becky Wilbanks officially announced her intention not to seek a third term as the Cass County Judge. According to an interview with the Journal-Sun this year she will be seeking entrepreneur ventures in the future. Wilbanks currently owns Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in Atlanta which she purchased in 2016. Her current term expires on December 31, 2022.

Queen Bess: Atlanta native is first African-American female aviator

On January 26, 1892, a baby girl was born to George Coleman, whose grandparents were Cherokee Indian, and Susan Coleman, who was African American. The girl they named Bessie was the tenth of thirteen children born to the couple. She spent her first two years in her birthplace of Atlanta, Texas, before her family moved to Waxahachie, Texas.

Congressman Fallon hosts town hall

Congressman Fallon hosts town hall

On Thursday, Aug. 19, Congressman Pat Fallon held a Town Hall meeting at the Cornerstone Assembly of God. County Judge Becky Wilbanks introduced Fallon with a brief background on the Congressman. She highlighted his graduation from Notre Dame, where he played football under legendary coach Lou Holtz and his four years of service in the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant at Sheppard Air Force Base. She also noted that he sponsored three house bills and two resolutions and cosponsored 79 house bills and two joint resolutions.
