McLeod makes the best of a bad situation

Fed by and dammed up on the Republican River, Milford Lake Reservoir is the largest lake in Kansas and known for it’s blue catfish. It was one of the two species I targeted with the other being hybrid striped bass when I booked two days of fishing with Brad Roether. When booking I told him the days I had open and he advised against the hybrids telling me I was early. I should have followed his advice and spent both days on the blues.
Cass County Judge Becky Wilbanks announced her decision to discontinue the Amended Order of Declaration of Local Disaster Due to Public Health Emergency on Wednesday, which was scheduled to expire on Thursday, Apr. 30.
After many months of careful thought, inspection and consideration, we have decided to merge the Atlanta Citizens Journal and The Cass County Sun. It is not a decision we took lightly. In fact, over the last few months, we have done our best to avoid having to do so. Once COVID-19 hit, community businesses closed which have hampered our advertising efforts. Many of our advertisers that have remained open for business have put a freeze on advertising which has made it difficult to maintain the operation of two newspapers. Even though we have seen an increase in subscriptions over several weeks, as well as dramatic increases in our website traffic and social media, we have been forced to take this step.
