The first few weeks of every session are usually slower than the end of each session. In fact, the Texas Constitution prevents the Legislature from passing any legislation during the first sixty days of a legislative session, unless the Governor has deemed the legislation an emergency item.
While 2020 was a strange year in more ways than one, one thing was fairly consistent; shutdowns and social distancing took a toll on sales tax revenues for many municipalities. Thankfully, Atlanta’s sales tax revenues still managed to show year-over-year value increases each month.
I became a statistic recently. Whoever said running was not a contact sport was not with me a couple of weeks ago. They say the emergency room treats over 24,000 runners every year due to accidents. My ego was probably more bruised than anything else but praise the Lord for band aids, gause and medical tape - that’s what has been holding me together. The Blonde (my wife Jennifer) makes a pretty good nurse and I’m thankful for her. I have not had a bloody nose since my older brother bloodied it when I was 15 (I’m sure I was de serving, ha).
