Cass County has received some much-needed rain over the last few days effectively taking the need away for a burn ban in our area. On September 22, the burn ban was rescinded. According to the last drought map on September 19, 2023, at 8 a.m. EDT, Cass County was still listed as a D2 (Severe Drought). That, however, was before rainfall began to impact our climate. It’s worthwhile to note Texarkana’s ban was also lifted. Additionally, it was noted in the press release that it is up to individual cities to determine their own measures.
Several City Managers and other community leaders attended the ARCIT Regional Meeting, on Wednesday, September 20 in Hughes Springs to discuss a number of the latest issues and developments in our rural communities. Food was catered by Latonya Arthur, JTPoFolk Food Trailer from Daingerfield. City managers from Daingerfield, and Hughes Springs, were in attendance. Daingerfield City Manager, Keith Whitfield, who is Vice President of ARCIT said that the meeting was “good, for it being the first of three Arcit Regional Meetings we will have before the Annual Conference in April of 2024.” Whitfield said that he “enjoyed the opportunity to network and receive information from Cyber Security,TWDB,TCEQ and updates on the legislation that affects all the municipalities around in one way or another. Among the topics was the impact of cybercrime on rural communities.”
