Judge Miller announces intent to run again for 5th District Court

Judge Bill Miller has announced his intention to run again for the 5th District Court. Miller has served for eight years and will be looking to serve another four. He was appointed by then-Governor Rick Perry. “In 2020, I received over 80% of the Cass County vote for District Judge and won the 2020 election with over 73% of the District’s vote, overall. Every day I strive to live up to the citizen’s expectations and continue to believe that fairness to all sides, an opportunity be heard, accurate application of the law, and diligent work on the court’s dockets are the cornerstones for a successful court,” says Miller. Miller is proud of the work of his bench. “Since taking the bench in 2015, I have disposed of over 13,000 cases, presided over more than 135 full jury trials, and handled thousands of criminal pleas, family law trials and civil lawsuits. We worked hard during the COVID restrictions imposed by the Texas Supreme Court. In fact, the 5th District Court tried the 1st COVID-19 trial in Texas in June 2020 and continued moving cases during the restrictions imposed by the Supreme Court’s 60 Emergency Orders regarding the COVID-19 State of Disaster declared by the governor (the last emergency order expired March 1, 2023!). “By mid-2021, we were back operating a full capacity and continue to do so today. In addition to operating a full-time Court, I was asked to serve on the State Bar Task Force for Re-starting Jury trials during the COVID slowdown and last week was elected as the Chairman-elect of the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas at our annual judicial conference.
