Free meals in school year 2021-2022

Atlanta ISD announced its policy today that this school year, healthy meals will be offered every school day to all students at no cost. Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. However, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year. Each school/site or central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed upon request.

Cass County fatality

On July 12, 2021 at approximately 2:00 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers were notified of a traffic crash on SH 155 in Cass County about two miles south of Avinger. Preliminary investigation indicates a 2005 Peterbuilt Truck-Tractor which was towing a trailer were traveling northeast on SH 155. For an as yet undetermined reason, the driver of the Peterbuilt lost control of the vehicle and it left the roadway striking several trees. There was heavy rain reported in the area at the time of the crash.
