On September 1, 2021, Becky Wilbanks officially announced her intention not to seek a third term as the Cass County Judge. According to an interview with the Journal-Sun this year she will be seeking entrepreneur ventures in the future. Wilbanks currently owns Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in Atlanta which she purchased in 2016. Her current term expires on December 31, 2022.
Weather Channel reported that “Ida’s catastrophic crawl across Louisiana has left at least two people dead, thousands of miles of power lines out of service and 911 dispatch centers inoperable.” The article went on to say that “rescuers were still trying to reach people trapped in their homes in some areas, and residents are being told not to return to New Orleans and other areas across southeast Louisiana until further notice.”
A Gilmer man is still being held in Morris County Jail after a multi-city chase on Aug. 18. Morris County Sheriff Jack Martin said Chancellor Riles Gunter, of Gilmer, was charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon, two counts Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant, and evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
