TEXAS HISTORY MINUTE

The month of March 1836 began with high hopes and idealism for Texas forces trying to free themselves from Mexico, but a string of military disasters pushed the Texas army to the edge of collapse. In the midst of these losses, one of the darkest incidents of the war occurred as more than 400 prisoners were executed at Goliad.

Trying times for Texans

These past several days have been trying for all Texans, from those losing power and heat to those that found themselves without water, or boiling water from previously safe sources, and many who experienced all of these conditions simultaneously.

My earliest memories of grade school were not of that special teacher that made a difference, but rather the school custodian, “Art” of Mesa Elementary in Westminster, Colorado. I don’t know his last name. To be honest I don’t know if he is alive now. It has been 40 plus years since I walked the halls of that school as a youth. Years since I have lived in the community, but out of all of the people that I still remember, it was Art that made a difference in my early life.
