Fifth grade students at Morris Upchurch Middle School celebrat ed Chinese New Year 2021 (Year of the Ox) after learning about the holiday. This year Chinese New Year fell on Feb. 12. The stu dents learned about the customs and traditions associated with Chinese New Year. They used origami to fold the ox for dec orations and used chopsticks to eat their noodles and dump lings. The noodles symbolize “Long Life” and the dumplings rep resent “Prosperity”. Students were excited to learn about a new culture that they hadn’t been previously exposed to. Courtesy Photos
When I was in high school, one of my least favorite subjects was History. I had no interest in the past-until January 1996.
